Risotteria Melotti ti Amo

“One cannot think well, love well, sleep well, if one has not dined well.” Virginia Woolf       Its been a while since I've found myself surprised or intrigued by something new cuisine-wise. So it was quite a surprise when I found myself surprised and intrigued by something familiar- just taken to a level of flavorful nirvana not reached before. Enter: Risotteria Melotti Not just any trattoria, this Risotteria, is an authentic Italian ristorante that oozes familiarity and warmth, even though the basis of its inception (Italy) is somewhere I've never been. Risotteria Melotti in New York is the dream of Guiseppe Melotti and his family, famous producers of rice in Italy. Risoterria Melotti offers a 100% gluten free cookery based on Italian Rice with a wide...

Wild

Not only is it a goal of ours to support local businesses as much as possible, but we embrace opportunities to eat fresh ingredients while we do so! You physically feel better afterwards- especially if you’re eating brunch, drunk or not. Brunches have the ability to take you out for the rest of the day if not well chosen. We’ve  been to Wild for dinner more times than I can count. Their sangria is delicious, especially when enjoying it outside on the covered patio (heated in the winter)- illuminated by hanging lanterns and white string lights. With everything gluten free, from pizzas and pastas to mouthwatering chocolate fudge cake and other desserts, it became an instant favorite. We had never done the fixed...

Fancy Dinner , Because Why Not?

Let me preface this by saying that I know some people find fancy dinners and events to be a drag. However, I believe dressing up ultimately makes everyone feel nice and glamorous- particularly when you’re dressing up for no reason!   While preparing for our trip home this past weekend, my mother informed us we would need to bring something black tie. Being the very lax and chill person my mother is, I was baffled. Did I manage to forget about an important event? A not-so-farfetched possibility. It was a pleasant relief to find out the reason she asked us to pack such items would be for a fancy family dinner. Whoever said you NEEDED to go somewhere to dress up or a reason...

Gluten Free at Agave

I know “boozy brunches” garner many mixed feelings. Some people love them, some people hate them, and some people love them and then hate them once the 3:00 pm hangover rolls in. I clearly (if you read this previous post) happen to feel very fondly towards them and even more so when I discover restaurants that can really accommodate my Celiacs . Agave, located in the wonderfully colorful West Village, is truly a gem. For $29.99 you get your choice of one fixed price menu item (including but not limited to: Huevos Rancheros, Eggs Benedict, Frittatas, and Burritos) and two bottomless hours of mimosas, wine or their traditional Agave margarita. Make sure to look at the menu ahead of time because...

L’amour L’asso

On the corner of Mott st. and Kenmare st. in Nolita lies this hip jewel. In a stunning display of cosmic synergy, this was the only brunch spot that would take a last minute (aka day before) reservation for nine, that just so happened to serve almost everything on the brunch menu gluten free! The $20 brunch comes with bottomless mimosas (or bloody marys), and bottomless they were; for an hour, that is. The most popular item off the menu was the breakfast pizza, which was topped with prosciutto, scallions, and two eggs over easy. In an interesting role reversal, I opted for the more traditional option- Blueblerry pancakes with fresh blueberry syrup. Despite the usual denseness of gluten-free pancakes, these were the perfect combination of...

Gluten Free Birthday Girl

(The above photo is from doscaminos.com) It’s not an easy feat to find a restaurant that is able to fit a party of 28 on a Friday night and accommodate a celiac birthday girl. Dos Caminos delivered. Ari, Jake (the third TRIPLET) and I have had our share of memorable birthday parties, but this was something else. Serving their consistently delicious Mexican food, the wonderful team at Dos Caminos (on Third avenue) made sure I felt special while celebrating! Prior to the big night out, I had spoken to management several times about the large party as well as my extreme sensitivity to cross contamination. As soon as I got downstairs to the larger seating area, I informed my waitress of my...

Gluten- Free at Gov Ball

Having been to music festivals before, I was concerned about access to gluten free food. I wanted something that I knew was safe but that would still enable me to have the full festival food experience. Gov Ball had a surprising number of gluten free options, which other festivals should take note of. The one I felt most comfortable with was Taquitoria because the restaurant itself only uses ingredients that are wheat, soy, gluten, nut, and shellfish free! Offering two different varieties of fresh taquitos, there was no way to go wrong. I would be lying if I said I didn't have my lunch and dinner there for the duration of the three-day shinding. I alternated between the black bean and pork taquitos; both topped...
