The Smartest Solution to an Expensive Bodysuit

Lately I have been a huge sucker for statement bodysuits but have a hard time splurging on them since they are not that practical (most definitely not work appropriate), and usually quite expensive. Using a plunging swimsuit as a bodysuit gives you much more “bang for your buck”. You can wear it under shorts, skirts, jeans, etc. for a specific occasion, but also wear it to the pool or beach where it is 100% appropriate. For days 1 and 2 of Governors Ball (a three day music festival on Randalls Island) I decided to go more for function than fashion since the weather conditions were sub-par. On the third day, not a cloud was in sight and the grounds no longer resembled...

Python is Still On-Trend + On Sale Now

This look was mostly inspired by (and taken during) our recent trip to Ojai, CA (we took so many great shots, you'll be hearing about it for just a bit longer).   While I wouldn't call Ojai "desert", it sported an incredible array of succulents, and cacti. The rural desert feel had me working leather, fringe, and print-on-print python. The top is Calvin Klein from last year, and the flats were a recent purchase. A few weeks ago, I posted about 6 Python Shoes for Any Occasion, and caved soon after. I found these Rachel Zoe pointed toe flats on sale at Bluefly.com, and couldn't resist! These jeans are Ralph Lauren from my Nanny Judy. Everyone jokes about "mom jeans", but these are actual grandma...

Baby Got Back: Conti Wedding Part I

Always a sucker for sentimentality, I decided to design and make our gowns for our cousin's recent wedding in Ojai, CA. I definitely bit off more than I could chew, but finished them just in time! The back is an incredibly sexy and underrated part of a woman's body, so both dresses were (tastefully) backless*. Since the dresses themselves were designed very differently, I wanted to make sure they were the same color. I do tend to brighten up my wardrobe during the warmer seasons, but I will NEVER swear off darks completely. Loving navy for spring and summer, especially for an outdoor venue, I decided to make the gowns solid navy with different embellishments and details. Gaby's gown (right) was inspired by the Miu Miu dress Sienna Miller wore at the Golden Globes,...

Vests and Versatility: Mastering the Art of Multipurpose Pieces

It's difficult to follow every trend on a limited budget, so when choosing what to purchase, versatility is key. As far as bottoms go, I was in the market for wide-leg jeans and a pair of denim culottes. Knowing I also wanted to update the rest of my wardrobe, I decided not to spend money on both. It turns out I made the right choice; because by happy mistake, these wide-leg jeans can double as cuffed culottes. As I mentioned in my previous post, long vests or sleeveless blazers was another trend I was desperate to try. I had been keeping an eye out for a khaki vest that was in my budget when I remembered a dress I purchased almost a year...
