The Velvet Underground

This velvet dress is a long time favorite of mine, but not only because its quirky, but also because of the fabric. Velvet always strikes me as festive and holiday-esque, but patchwork prints are particularly in right now.

As featured on the Chloe AW15 runway show (included in my roundup below), the luxe texture adds a new level of casual sophistication to a recurring trend.

It’s easy to style in outfits either as a dress with thigh high boots, or over light wash jeans or tights as a tunic.

One reason I love vintage is because I love imagining the stories that come along with each purchase. In this case, I might have actually figured it out. I picked it up at a vintage store years ago. The tag says Betsey Johnson, but the lining on the inside looks like it was all cut out and is no longer attached to the hem of the garment. I assumed it was normal wear and tear until I did even more research. If my sleuthing abilities served me well, this was actually a floor length patchwork house coat which was re-purposed into the dress you see here, making it THAT MUCH COOLER.

Shop my picks below and tell me if you would try this trend.
