Because it’s “Earth Week,” today’s Tunesday is also dedicated to mother nature, and a reminder that what we do to her, matters. Yusuf Islam (F.K.A. Cat Stevens) is a personal favorite of ours. He is unparalleled in his ability to paint elaborate images with his music. These images undoubtedly make every listener feel deeply in some way and, for better or worse, that’s the requisite of a true musical legend.
“Where Do The Children Play”, should be required listening for every person living on (and therefore, in some way, damaging) earth. The lyrics reference some of the many actions we as a society carry out in the advancement processes, and brings attention to the effect it will have on the future…our children’s future.
“Well you roll on roads over fresh green grass.
For your lorryloads pumping petrol gas…
Oh, I know we’ve come a long way,
We’re changing day to day,
But tell me, where do the children play?”
At what point will we stop? What is too high a price for continued industrialization (the resulting pollution) and demolition of natural land. Well we’ve been inspired, and this song is our call to action.
Where do you want your children to play?
