Tunesday For The Animals

It’s no secret that, here at Twinseperable HQ, we are huge animal lovers and advocates of animal rights.

In honor of World Animal Day, today’s Tunesday pays tribute to ten of our favorite songs that are about, or influenced by, animals in some way.

At times, lyrics are directed towards a specific animal, as is the case in Yusuf Islam’s “I Love My Dog,” with lyrics like:

All he asks from me is the food to give him strength
All he ever needs is love and that he knows he’ll get
So, I love my dog as much as I love you
But you may fade, my dog will always come through.
Other times, they consist of a more generalized connection to the subject, as in “Crocodile Rock” and “A Horse With No Name.” Either way, it is clear that animals have served as a great source of inspiration for musicians over the years.
If you are unsure of ways to get involved or make a difference, here are some suggestions:
1. Perhaps those most harmed by the negative effects of global warming are animals and their habitats. By trying to limit your carbon footprint you are helping to combat harmful pollutants.
2. Oftentimes, animals are surrendered to shelters through no fault of their own. Just because animals are sheltered doesn’t mean they are flawed in some way or will come with extra behavioral baggage (even so, everyone deserves to be loved). Seriously consider adopting your next pet(s)!
3. Not everyone is in a position to take on the extra responsibility of adopting an animal, emotionally and or financially. Supporting organizations and spreading the word does more than you might think!
4. Be conscious of your beauty routine and which products/brands you use and support. A lot of brands still use animal testing before releasing their products to the public. Here is an extensive list of cruelty-free beauty brands.
5. Sign and promote petitions and legislation such as this Universal Declaration on Animal Welfare. To read more about this and animal rights in general, visit Animal Matters.
