In some cases, the songs take on a completely different meaning or come from another perspective. Me and Bobby McGee was originally about a woman- contrary to the gender-reversal in Janis Joplin’s version. In other cases, these artists have a way of making the same lyrics sound like a completely different song i.e. the two versions of Downtown Train.
